Core System Terms

Energy Blueprint

Also known in the broader field as: Human Design

A system for understanding a person's unique energy mechanics, behavioral patterns, life strategy, and decision-making authority — calculated from their birth date, time, and location. The Energy Blueprint draws on the I Ching's 64-hexagram system combined with astrological planetary positions at the moment of birth. The output is an Energy Chart showing defined and undefined energy centers, active channels, and gate activations. Each Energy Blueprint is unique to its owner.

Energy Chart

Also known in the broader field as: Bodygraph

The visual diagram produced by an Energy Blueprint calculation. Shows nine energy centers (analogous to the chakra system), the channels connecting those centers, and the 64 gates corresponding to I Ching hexagrams. Centers are "defined" (colored) when consistently activated by planetary positions at birth, and "undefined" (white) when open to conditioning from the environment. The pattern of definition determines a person's Energy Type, Authority, and overall design.

Energy Centers

The nine centers in the Energy Chart are: Head (inspiration and mental pressure), Ajna (mental processing and certainty), Throat (communication and manifestation), G/Identity (direction, love, and identity), Heart/Ego (will power and material values), Sacral (life-force and sexuality), Solar Plexus (emotions and desire), Spleen (intuition, health, and survival), and Root (adrenaline, stress, and drive). Defined centers operate consistently; undefined centers are receptive and amplifying.

Gates & Channels

Gates are the 64 I Ching hexagram activations that appear in the Energy Chart from planetary positions. Each gate represents a specific frequency or theme. A channel forms when two complementary gates on either end of a channel are both activated — creating a defined connection between two energy centers. Channels carry consistent energy flow and define how a person's centers are connected and powered.

The Five Energy Types

Energy Type is the most fundamental aspect of the Energy Blueprint, determined by the defined centers and channels in the Energy Chart. Each type has a distinct life strategy — the optimal way of engaging with the world to minimize resistance and increase alignment.

Builder Pattern

~37% of people · Field term: Generator

Defined Sacral center. Sustainable, consistent energy for work and creation. Strategy: respond to life's invitations — wait for something to respond to rather than initiating from scratch. The gut response (a sound or physical sensation) is the reliable guide. When engaged in work they love, Builders have virtually unlimited energy.

Builder-Initiator Pattern

~33% of people · Field term: Manifesting Generator

Defined Sacral plus a motor-to-Throat connection. All the responsive energy of a Builder with the added capacity to initiate. Strategy: respond first, then inform others before acting. May skip steps and course-correct along the way. Fastest energy type — multi-passionate and multi-skilled.

Guide Pattern

~20% of people · Field term: Projector

No defined Sacral center. Designed to guide, direct, and manage energy — not to generate it. Strategy: wait for recognition and invitation before sharing wisdom. Guides read systems and people deeply. They need rest and selective engagement to avoid burnout. Their invitation signals that their guidance will be received.

Catalyst Pattern

~9% of people · Field term: Manifestor

A motor center connected to the Throat, but no defined Sacral. Designed to initiate and create impact. Strategy: inform those who will be affected by their actions before acting — this reduces resistance and opens doors. Catalysts have a natural aura that can be impactful and sometimes intimidating. Independence is essential.

Mirror Pattern

~1% of people · Field term: Reflector

No consistently defined centers. Mirrors absorb and reflect the energies of their environment and community. Strategy: wait a full lunar cycle (28 days) before making major decisions. This allows sampling of the full spectrum of perspectives as the moon transits all 64 gates. Mirrors are the rarest type and the most sensitive to their surroundings.

Authority Types

Authority is the specific internal decision-making process each person is designed to use. The mind is not reliable for personal decisions in the Energy Blueprint system — Authority points to the body-based or energetic mechanism that provides genuine clarity.

Sacral Authority

The gut response — often experienced as a sound (uh-huh / uh-uh) or a physical sensation of expansion or contraction. Available to Builders and Builder-Initiators. The most immediate and reliable Authority. Yes/no questions elicit the clearest gut response.

Emotional / Solar Plexus Authority

Clarity arrives by riding an emotional wave over time — never make a major decision in the peak of emotion or the depth of it. Wait until a wave has passed and calmness provides perspective. The most common Authority after Sacral. Applies to all Energy Types when the Solar Plexus is defined.

Splenic Authority

In-the-moment survival intelligence — a quiet, one-time signal that speaks once and does not repeat. Available when Spleen is defined and Solar Plexus and Sacral are not. Requires practice to hear because it is subtle. Never speaks twice about the same decision.

Ego / Heart Authority

Aligned with will, desire, and capacity. The question is "Do I want to? Can I commit to this?" Available to some Guide Patterns and Catalyst Patterns with a defined Heart center connected to the Throat. Speaking from the heart clarifies the decision.

Self-Projected Authority

Clarity emerges through speaking — not through listening to others' advice, but through the act of speaking to a trusted sounding board. The person hears their own truth in their words. Available to some Guide Patterns with a defined G/Identity center connected to the Throat.

Mental / Environmental Authority

No inner Authority — clarity comes from sampling different environments and perspectives. The person needs to talk through decisions with multiple trusted people and notice where they feel most like themselves. Available to some Guide Patterns with only the Head and Ajna defined.

Lunar / No Inner Authority

Available only to Mirror Patterns. Major decisions require waiting 28 days — one full lunar cycle — to allow the moon to transit all 64 gates and provide the full spectrum of perspectives. Speaking with different people throughout the cycle supports clarity.

Profile Lines

Profile is a two-number designation (e.g., 1/3, 4/6) derived from the conscious sun line and the unconscious sun line in the Energy Chart. It describes the archetypal role a person plays in life and the quality of their life journey.

Line 1 — Investigator

Builds security through deep research and solid foundations. Needs to know the fundamentals before feeling ready to act. The question is always "What is the foundation here?"

Line 2 — Hermit

Naturally gifted but needs periods of withdrawal to integrate and develop. Gifts are often projected onto them by others before they recognize them in themselves. Values solitude and space.

Line 3 — Martyr

Learns through trial and error — discovers what works by discovering what doesn't. Brings empirical, experiential wisdom. Bonds are often impermanent; each ending contains learning.

Line 4 — Opportunist

Influence operates through network and community. The right opportunities come through existing relationships. Stability in core friendships and community is foundational to wellbeing.

Line 5 — Heretic

Carries universal, practical solutions that can benefit many. Others project either savior or scapegoat onto them — the 5 must manage reputation carefully. Distance and mystery protect the field of projection.

Line 6 — Role Model

Three-phase life: experimentation and trial/error (age 0–30), withdrawal and observation from the "rooftop" (30–50), and embodied role modeling (50+). Carries wisdom from having lived both the 3rd and 6th line arcs.

Life Purpose Vector

Also known in the broader field as: Incarnation Cross

The Life Purpose Vector is formed by the four gates of the conscious sun, conscious earth, unconscious sun, and unconscious earth at birth. These four gates create a cross shape in the Energy Chart. There are 192 unique crosses, each expressing one of three cross types that describe the fundamental nature of a person's purpose orientation.

Right Angle Cross

Purpose is personal — it comes from direct response to life's immediate opportunities. The Right Angle person is not here to follow a transpersonal calling but to live out their design authentically. Their fulfillment arises from full engagement with what they are genuinely drawn toward moment to moment. About 72% of people have Right Angle crosses.

Left Angle Cross

Purpose is transpersonal — it unfolds across time through revisiting, deepening, and refining past themes and relationships. The Left Angle person encounters the same kinds of lessons cyclically, each time extracting more mastery. Their influence extends beyond their personal sphere into the lives of others through their accumulated wisdom. About 25% of people have Left Angle crosses.

Juxtaposition Cross

Purpose is fixed — it arises from the friction between two opposing forces that the person is designed to hold simultaneously. The Juxtaposition person walks a single, defined path with no real flexibility to deviate; their wisdom comes from fully inhabiting that paradox and transmitting what they discover. About 3% of people have the Juxtaposition Cross.

Frequency Keys

Also known in the broader field as: Gene Keys

Frequency Keys are a system of 64 archetypes — one for each hexagram of the I Ching — that describe a complete spectrum of expression available through each gate in the Energy Chart. They are used in Prime Self to enrich and deepen Energy Blueprint gate interpretations.

Shadow

The low-frequency, reactive expression of a Frequency Key. Shadows arise from fear, conditioning, and unconscious patterns. They are not "bad" — they are the starting point of transformation and contain the seed of the corresponding Gift.

Gift

The mid-frequency, integrated expression of a Frequency Key. The Gift emerges when a Shadow pattern is recognized and accepted rather than resisted. Gifts are practical, embodied qualities that benefit both the individual and those around them.

Siddhi

The high-frequency, transcendent expression of a Frequency Key. Siddhis represent the highest potential of a gate's energy — rare, non-personal states of consciousness that arise organically when a Gift is fully lived. They are not goals to achieve but natural expressions of deep alignment.

Hologenetic Profile

The personal map formed by selecting specific gates from the Energy Chart — typically the Life Purpose Vector gates, the Evolution gate, and the Radiance gate — and exploring their Frequency Key spectrums in depth. This forms the contemplative journey at the heart of the Frequency Keys system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Energy Blueprint?

An Energy Blueprint is a map of a person's unique energy mechanics, behavioral patterns, and life strategy, calculated from their birth date, time, and location. It draws on the I Ching's 64-hexagram system and combines it with astrological planetary positions to produce an Energy Chart. Each Energy Blueprint reveals the person's natural decision-making process (Authority), life role (Profile), energy type, and primary life theme (Life Purpose Vector). It is sometimes called "Human Design" in the broader field — Prime Self uses the term Energy Blueprint as its canonical name.

What are the five Energy Types?

The five Energy Types are: Builder Pattern (~37% of people) — sustainable, responsive energy; Builder-Initiator Pattern (~33%) — responsive energy with initiating capacity; Guide Pattern (~20%) — non-energy type designed to guide and direct others; Catalyst Pattern (~9%) — initiating energy with broad impact capacity; Mirror Pattern (~1%) — lunar-cycle type that reflects community health. Each type has a distinct life strategy and decision-making approach.

What are Frequency Keys?

Frequency Keys are a system of 64 archetypes, one for each hexagram of the I Ching, that describe the spectrum of expression available through each gate in the Energy Chart — from reactive Shadow patterns through integrated Gifts to transcendent Siddhis. They are used to deepen the interpretation of Energy Blueprint gate activations. They are sometimes called "Gene Keys" in the broader field.

What is a Life Purpose Vector?

A Life Purpose Vector is the four-gate combination of conscious and unconscious sun/earth activations at birth that describes a person's primary life theme and purpose direction. It is expressed as one of three cross types — Right Angle (personal, responsive purpose), Left Angle (transpersonal, cyclical mastery), and Juxtaposition (fixed, paradox-holding purpose). It is sometimes called an "Incarnation Cross" in the broader field.

How is Prime Self different from other Energy Blueprint tools?

Prime Self is professional practice software, not a free chart calculator. It is built for practitioners who serve paying clients. It calculates Energy Blueprints instantly, synthesizes cross-system readings (Energy Blueprint + Astrology + Numerology + Frequency Keys) using AI, manages a client roster with session notes, and exports branded PDF reports. It replaces a practitioner's stack of separate tools — chart calculators, note-taking apps, and report templates — with a single platform.

What does "defined" mean in an Energy Chart?

A "defined" center in an Energy Chart means that the center is consistently activated — it has a reliable, fixed quality that is always present in the person's energy field. Defined centers are shown in color in the chart. An "undefined" center is open and receptive — it amplifies and reflects the energies of defined centers in the people around it. Undefined centers are shown in white. The pattern of definition determines a person's Energy Type, Authority, and signature themes.
