What is a Human Design Bodygraph?

A Human Design bodygraph (also called an Energy Chart or BodyGraph) is a diagram of nine geometric shapes connected by lines, representing your 9 energy centers, 36 channels, and 64 gates. It's calculated from your birth date, time, and location using two planetary snapshots — one at birth and one approximately 88 days before — mapped to the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching.

The result is a chart that shows:

Human Design was transmitted by Ra Uru Hu (Alan Krakower) beginning in 1987 following an experience in Ibiza, Spain. It synthesizes four ancient wisdom traditions with modern science:

The 9 Energy Centers

The nine centers in the bodygraph are arranged in a specific geometric pattern. Each center governs a domain of life. When a center is defined (filled with color), it operates consistently throughout your life. When it's undefined or open (white), you're designed to receive and amplify that energy from others — which can be both a gift and a source of conditioning.

The 64 Gates

Each of the 64 gates corresponds to one of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. When a planet occupies a particular degree of the zodiac at birth, it activates the corresponding gate in your bodygraph. Activated gates appear as short lines on the channels connecting the centers.
